Adopt-A-Planter Program

Shop Greensburg and the Greensburg Community Development Corporation encourage businesses, individuals, and volunteer organizations to consider adopting the planters along S. Pennsylvania Avenue in Downtown Greensburg. By working together, we can greatly enhance the City’s appearance for businesses, residents and visitors alike. Answers to the most frequently asked questions about the program are listed below. Please contact Amy Beeghly with Shop Greensburg at amy@beeghlyandcompany.com or Ashley Kertes with GCDC at gcdc@thinkgreensburg.com for additional information.

What is the purpose of the Adopt-A-Planter Program?

The Adopt-A-Planter Program was established to enhance the appearance of Downtown Greensburg, specifically along S. Pennsylvania Avenue in the heart of the City’s Shopping District. This initiative was launched in the summer of 2021 thanks to a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County.

Who can adopt a planter?

Anyone can volunteer to sponsor or “adopt” the planters, such as businesses, individuals, or volunteer organizations.

What is the sponsor’s responsibility?

It is the responsibility of the sponsor to water the planters as necessary. The planters should be watered at least twice a week, depending on the weather conditions. For example, if there is an exceptionally dry, hot stretch of weather, the planters my need to be watered more than two times that week. Conversely, if there is a stretch of rainy weather, the planters may only need to be watered once if at all during the week.

What is the adoption term commitment?

The sponsorship/adoption agreement is for a 4-month period beginning June 1 and ending at the end of September, or whenever the plants are at the end of their season.

How do I water the planters?

The planters can be easily watered using the supplied backpack sprayer with custom fitted cart. The sprayer will be stored inside of Mancuso’s Shoe Repair at 102 S. Pennsylvania Avenue. Further details will be proved upon adoption commitment.

Will it be advertised who has adopted the planters for the season?

Yes – the business/organization’s name and/or logo will be displayed on plaques that will be placed in each planter.
