CITY OF GREENSBURG COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE – SHAPE GREENSBURG

The Greensburg Community Development Corporation is proud to be a part of the City’s efforts to update its 14-year-old Comprehensive Plan. Titled Shape Greensburg, the comprehensive plan’s goal is to develop a highly collaborative, user-friendly document that can be used by City leaders, staff, business owners, developers, and residents to guide decision-making and development to the year 2040. Pittsburgh-based consulting firm, Environmental Planning and Design will be leading the City’s comprehensive plan update.

The Plan will be strategic and include prioritized, workable action plans and themes. City leaders identified themes early on including eliminating blight, making City government accessible, promoting investment, capitalizing onexisting assets (i.e., walkability, history, culture, education, and recreation), and maintaining valuable City services. The Plan will adopt a neighborhood-based approach that weaves together strategies for improving the quality of these places to broader, city-wide initiatives presented in the Plan. Early in the process, the City’s Planning Commission identified more than 20 individual neighborhoods and recognized that these places are the fundamental building blocks of any great city.

“Neighborhoods are the very foundation of our City, and we believe that allof our residents deserve to live in a great neighborhood. It’s this idea that drives our neighborhood-based planning approach for this project,” said City Mayor, Robb Bell.
